01 / THE BRIEF

Five answers, if you read nothing else.

Drive times are from Clearwater Ranch (CR 200, Liberty Hill) on ordinary traffic. Restock confidence runs High → Medium → Low; the legend is at the bottom.

CLOSEST / EVERYDAY

Target Liberty Hill

The new store at 183 & 29 is 11 minutes away, sells sealed at MSRP, and is the only big-box Pokémon counter inside Liberty Hill itself.

HOW TO READ THIS

Confidence, not certainty

High — dated first-hand report or the store’s own post.
Medium — older local report or a corroborated chain pattern.
Low — inference from chain practice.

No retailer publishes a schedule

The one-paragraph version

Nobody publishes a restock schedule — not Target, not Walmart, not the card shops. What exists are patterns: Target’s card aisle is filled by a third-party vendor on a weekly route that locals in Cedar Park say lands Tuesday and Friday; Walmart’s vendor comes Tuesday–Thursday mornings; new Pokémon product releases on Friday, which is also when local shops like Bad Habits restock and when Target’s online drops cluster; and the H-E-B/Randalls vending machines refill on a timer through the day. Everything else is a phone call.

03 / THE RESTOCK TRUTH

Six systems, not one schedule.

The reason “when do they restock?” has no clean answer is that six different supply chains feed the same shelf. Once you know which system you are dealing with, the days stop being mysterious.

System 01

Third-party vendor

Target · Walmart · Dollar stores

A merchandiser (MJ Holding-type) visits on a fixed weekly route and stocks the card aisle. The store does not control the day, and the rep’s route can change. This is why two Targets 10 minutes apart can restock on different days.

System 02

Retailer’s own receiving

Barnes & Noble · Scheels · GameStop · Best Buy

These chains buy their own inventory. Stock arrives on the store’s freight schedule, usually weekly, and launch allocations land on release day. No outside vendor, no published day.

System 03

Distributor to card shop

Local card shops

Shops get weekly distributor shipments plus buy/trade intake. Release Fridays matter most; a few shops publish their day (Bad Habits: Friday). Others restock continuously from trades.

System 04

Buy / trade intake

Singles-heavy shops

Collectors Crossroads, Mothership and Card Traders restock the case from what walk-in sellers bring. That is why “new arrivals every day” is literal at those shops — and why weekday afternoons can beat Friday.

System 05

Vending machines

H-E-B · Randalls

Official Pokémon machines release product on a timer through the day. No restock day, no vendor visit you can time — just a trickle that refills after purchases. Check twice, 20–30 minutes apart.

System 06

Pallet drops

Costco · Sam’s Club

Club stores buy in pallets and put them out when the pallet lands. Liberty Hill Costco currently carries no regular Pokémon — only occasional anniversary SKUs, announced online first.

Why the vendor days keep moving

In West Texas, collectors reportedly GPS-tracked a vendor’s vehicle and confronted a rep — and the response was to randomize routes and skip stores where people are waiting. If you are standing in the card aisle at 8am staring at the rep, you may be the reason the shelf stays empty. Shop, don’t stalk.

The evidence table

What people actually said, where they said it, and how much weight to put on it. Dates matter — a 2025 report may be stale.

TRADE DAY
07 / BIG BOX

How the chains actually work.

Useful rules for the stores that do not have a person you can call.

01

Target — Tuesday & Friday, at open

The card aisle is vendor-stocked. Cedar Park locals named Tuesday and Friday; chain-wide reports favour Tuesday/Thursday. Online drops are a separate Friday 3am ET phenomenon. Best move: be there at 8am on Tue/Fri and ask Guest Services for the vendor day.

02

Walmart — Tuesday to Thursday mornings

Vendor visits 1–2×/week, usually mornings. The Round Rock Walmart was called “the worst place to try” by a local. Best move: try the Leander and Georgetown stores before Round Rock.

03

Costco — ignore, mostly

Liberty Hill Costco confirmed no Pokémon cards as of Oct 23, 2026. Anniversary tins and UPCs appear as pallet drops and vanish fast. Best move: only go when a specific SKU is announced.

04

Barnes & Noble — the quiet one

Buys its own stock, restocks weekly, and gets real allocations of anniversary product. No vendor, so no route to learn. Best move: ask the info desk for the toy shipment day.

05

Scheels — waves, not days

No published schedule; stock arrives in waves across the card wall. New store, heavy traffic. Best move: weekday opening, not Saturday afternoon.

GameStop & Best Buy — release day only

Small allocations that land on launch day and disappear. Not worth a special trip otherwise. Best move: check the app for in-store pickup before driving.

08 / THE MACHINES

The vending-machine layer.

Official Pokémon TCG vending machines sit inside H-E-B and Randalls stores. They are the most underrated option in the area — and the most misunderstood. Product is released on a timer through the day, so a machine that looks empty often is not sold out.

How to work a machine

Buy one item, wait 15–30 minutes, check again. Collectors report the machine “trickle restocks” after each purchase rather than dumping its whole inventory at once. There is no published refill day. The Leander H-E-B machine has a known camper problem — a man was reportedly trespassed for camping eight hours a day — so early morning is contested.

09 / THE PLAYBOOK

Ten rules that save wasted drives.

Practical, local, and learned from the threads rather than invented.

01

Call before you drive.

Card shops will tell you what landed and what sold out. A 40-second call beats a 30-minute drive. Ask for the card counter, not the front desk.

02

Ask the vendor question.

At Target or Walmart: “Which day does the trading-card vendor usually come?” Staff often know. Guest Services is the right desk.

03

Friday is the real release day.

New Pokémon sets and most restocks land Friday. If you can only go one day a week, make it Friday at opening.

04

Be there at open, not at noon.

Vendors finish before mid-morning and the first wave of collectors clears the shelf within an hour. Noon is for leftovers.

05

Don’t stand and watch the vendor.

Reps have reportedly skipped stores where people wait, and routes have been randomized after tracking incidents. Shop the aisle, then leave.

06

Buy singles at the shop, sealed at the box store.

Target/Scheels for MSRP sealed; Collectors Crossroads, Mothership, Card Traders and Hobby Exchange for the specific card you actually want.

07

Check the machine twice.

Empty glass ≠ sold out. The timer releases product through the day; a second pass 20–30 minutes later frequently pays.

08

Use the app for the last mile.

Target and Best Buy show per-store pickup stock. It is not perfect for cards, but it stops you driving to a store that has nothing.

09

Know the limits before you queue.

Launch days often carry 1–2 per SKU limits. Bring a second adult if you legitimately need two, and expect the limit to be enforced at checkout. At Best Buy Wolf Ranch, the queue for a big release has started the evening before.

10

Join one local channel, not ten.

The 295K-member “Pokemon Cards Restock Information” group is national noise; follow the Austin/Cedar Park threads and your two or three local shops. That is enough.

CALL SCRIPT → “Hi — do you have Pokémon cards in stock today, and do you know which day your shipment or vendor comes? I’m trying to avoid driving out if it’s picked over.”
10 / SOURCES

Evidence & method.

Every factual claim in this report traces to one of these. Restock days are community-reported unless marked otherwise; store hours change, so call ahead.

Confidence legend

High — a dated, first-hand local report or the store’s own post. Medium — a local report older than ~6 months, or a chain-wide pattern corroborated by multiple sources. Low — inference from chain practice or unverified directory data. No retailer in this area publishes an official restock schedule.

What I could not verify: the vendor day at the brand-new Target Liberty Hill (the store is three weeks old), the current Cedar Park Target day (locals disagree between Tuesday and Monday), Bad Habits’ weekday hours, and whether the Leander H-E-B machine is still the one with the camper problem. Those are the first things to confirm in person.
